Classic country. Traditionalist country. Country music the way it was and the way it should be. The Derailers are all of those. Not just the sound, but the look, too. Flashy western suits, flattop haircuts, and a brimming-over dance floor is what you can expect from the Derailers, along with that beautiful Bakersfield sound. Haggard, Owens, Jones, and Cash would all be proud. Actually, Buck Owens is proud; he's a fan. As a matter of fact, the Derailers played at the official Buck Owens birthday party out in Bakersfield a while back. When you can put that on your resume, you know you're where you want to be. Or, at least, on the way to where you want to be. The Derailers have two CDs out on both the Watermelon and Freedom labels. If you don't get out much, but enjoy authentic country music, have a listen to either of these. You will not be sorry.--David Courtney
